Athneon 2.0 is the annual inter-school technology festival run by The Heritage School, Kolkata. This page explains what this website collects when you visit it, why, and what happens to it.

The short version: we collect anonymous, aggregate statistics about how the site is used. There are no cookies, no accounts, no sign-up forms, and nothing that identifies you as an individual.

What we collect

This site uses one piece of analytics software: Umami, a cookieless, privacy-focused analytics tool. It runs on an instance we host ourselves, and it is the only third-party resource this page loads.

For each page view, Umami records:

  • The page you viewed — the URL path, the site hostname, the page title, and any query string or fragment.
  • How you arrived — the address of the page that referred you, plus any campaign parameters or advertising click IDs carried in the link (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, gclid and similar).
  • Your device and browser — browser name, operating system, device type (desktop, laptop, mobile or tablet), screen resolution, and browser language. These come from the standard user-agent information your browser sends with every request.
  • Your approximate location — country, region and city. These are derived from the IP address the request arrives with so we can see roughly where visitors are. The IP address itself is never stored.
  • Timing — when each page view happened, and aggregate measures such as session length and bounce rate.

Umami does not record your name, email address, or any other detail that could identify you. Specifically, it does not:

  • use cookies, or any equivalent local storage identifier;
  • store your IP address, or retain it after looking up the region;
  • fingerprint your device or browser;
  • follow you to other websites, or combine your visits with anyone else's data;
  • sell, rent or share anything with advertisers.

We use Umami with its default settings. We do not use its identify() feature, so no custom identifier is ever attached to your visits, and we have not enabled its performance or Core Web Vitals collection.

How visitors are counted

To tell one visit from another, Umami computes a one-way hash from details your browser already sends — the site identifier, hostname, user agent and so on — together with a random salt that is replaced every month. That hash cannot be reversed back into anything that identifies you, and because the salt rotates, the same person cannot be followed from one month to the next. Individual visits use a similar hash with a salt that rotates hourly.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies, which is why you will not see a cookie banner here. If you block cookies, disable JavaScript, or block the analytics request entirely, the site works exactly the same.

What you send us directly

If you email us, or write to one of the people listed in the contact section, we receive whatever you put in that message — normally your name, your email address, and whatever you choose to tell us. We use it only to reply to you and to run the festival, we do not add you to any mailing list, and we keep it no longer than we need it. There is currently no sign-up or registration form on this website.

Who else sees it

The analytics script and the statistics it produces are served from a self-hosted Umami instance at analytics.kabirstudios.com, run on infrastructure dedicated to this site and operated for the Athneon organising team. It is not an advertising or profiling network, and the data is not passed on to anyone else.

Everything else the page needs — fonts, styles and scripts — is served from this domain, so the analytics request is the only one that leaves it. Links to other sites, such as https://theheritageschool.org or our social pages, take you somewhere with its own privacy policy.

How long we keep it

Analytics records stay on our self-hosted instance until we delete them. Because they contain no personal data and cannot be traced back to an individual, there is no visitor profile to look up, correct or erase.

Your rights

We do not hold personal data about visitors to this site, so there is no record of you to access, export or delete. Where data protection law applies, our use of the anonymous statistics described above rests on our legitimate interest in understanding how many people use the site and which parts they find useful. If you have emailed us, you can ask us to delete your message at any time, and we will.

Children

This site is aimed at a general audience that includes school students. It has no accounts, logins or forms, and the analytics described here are not personal information about anyone, of any age.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page.
